MADRID: A Journey Through Lara's Home City
Madrid is a city close to our hearts, especially for Lara. It offers a mix of modern energy and historic charm, and our visits are always filled with memorable moments:
Watching the sunset from the Temple of Debod, an ancient Egyptian temple rebuilt in the city, gives you a unique view of Madrid's skyline.
El Rastro, the famous Sunday flea market, is always buzzing with life and filled with interesting finds.
We love strolling through Barrio de las Letras, a neighborhood once home to Spain’s literary greats, now lined with charming shops and cafés.
And of course, no visit is complete without trying Madrid’s culinary staples—patatas bravas at Las Bravas and churros con chocolate at San Ginés, a tradition since 1894.
SEGOVIA: A Medieval Escape
Just an hour from Madrid, Segovia feels like stepping into the past. The Roman aqueduct, still standing strong since the 1st century, is a remarkable piece of ancient engineering. But for us, the real highlight was trying cochinillo Segoviano, a local specialty, at Restaurant José María. It’s a dish that really captures the flavors of Castilian cuisine.
TOLEDO: A City of Three Cultures
Toledo, known as "the city of the three cultures," is a living testament to its Christian, Muslim, and Jewish heritage from the Middle Ages. Wandering through its narrow alleys and quaint squares, it’s easy to feel like you’ve entered a place where history is still very much alive. Every corner of Toledo speaks to its rich, multicultural past and the blend of traditions that shaped the city.
SEVILLA: Tiene un colo especial
"Sevilla tiene un color especial," as the song goes, and we found that to be true in every way. The city's charm lies in its narrow, cobblestone streets, which wind past beautiful historical buildings—each turn offering a glimpse into its rich past. The atmosphere is uniquely Sevillian, with the taste of traditional tapas in the air and the sweet scent of oranges from the trees lining the streets. Together, these elements create a colorful, sensory experience that makes Sevilla unforgettable.
VALENCIA: The Futuristic Splendor of the City of Arts and Sciences
Valencia blends the old with the new, and the City of Arts and Sciences is a perfect example. Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, this futuristic complex features some of the city’s most iconic buildings, including the stunning Oceanográfico (Europe’s largest aquarium) and the Hemisférico, an IMAX theater and planetarium. Set against the Turia Riverbed, now a lush park, the sleek, white structures reflect in the surrounding turquoise waters, creating a unique blend of art, science, and nature that’s hard to forget.
